Hurricane Music presents Rachel Hickey with Baraka at The Citadel House
About this event

Rachel Hickey is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter who makes melancholic folk-rock songs that will break your guard down and swallow you whole with her unforgettable voice. Following her 2021 debut EP Getting By, Rachel’s sophomore 2022 EP So Long further evolves her sound and has earned her coverage in Exclaim! magazine and plays on CBC Radio One. Rachel's writing covers themes of love, heartbreak, resilience and deep reflection, inspired by artists like Florence Welch, Joni Mitchell, Julia Jacklin, and The War on Drugs. Often focused around guitar, Hickey's feeling-packed sound incorporates haunting vocals, atmospheric supporting electric guitars, bass, synth and traditional drums, using storytelling and descriptive imagery to captivate listeners. Rachel is currently performing live across Canada in support of her latest EP and is preparing for her debut full-length album, "The Eve of St. Agnes", due out in 2024.

From his home base of St. John’s, NL, Baraka is a soulful singer/songwriter whose sound and spirit are sure to tug on the heartstrings of everyone who hears him sing. Originally hailing from the coastal city of Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, Baraka has been performing and writing music since he was 14 years old. Drawing influences from artists such as Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, and Tracy Chapman, he has a natural talent for writing clever lyrics and infectious melodies.
