Forest Ecology Walk
Sat, September 14, 2024, 9:00 AM (AST)
About this event
Prior to settlement in the 1720s, 98% of PEI was forested. By 1900, this had been reduced to 27%. While no areas of PEI remain completely untouched, we'll visit an example of forest on unploughed land - a site that has never been cleared and farmed. We'll examine some of the specialized plants (and a few fungi) that live there, and look at what old growth species and processes remain. As always, the walk is likely to include a few edible and medicinal species!
The walk will be along a trail through hilly terrain, with exposed tree roots in some areas. We'll go rain or shine unless it is unsafe to do so (eg. thunder, hurricane). Wear comfortable footwear and dress for the weather. Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled due to weather.
