Get ready to step into the absurd! Join Smugglers Theatre as we bring to life Rhinoceros, Eugène Ionesco’s darkly comedic classic that explores what happens when everyone around you starts to lose their humanity and transform into...well...RHINOCEROSSES! Through the lens of the absurd, Ionesco examines themes of conformity, identity, and resistance in the face of overwhelming pressure to conform.
Over the course of three acts, the inhabitants of a small, provincial French town turn into rhinoceroses; ultimately the only human who does not succumb to this mass metamorphosis is the central character, Berenger, a flustered everyman figure who is initially criticized in the play for his drinking, tardiness, and slovenly lifestyle and then, later, for his increasing paranoia and obsession with the rhinoceroses.
Expect thought-provoking moments, laughter, and scenes that will stick with you long after the final curtain call. This is a show that challenges us to hold onto our humanity—even when it feels like the world is going wild.
Don’t miss it! Grab your tickets now and join us at Open Space Theatre for a night that promises to be unforgettable.
