About this event
Valmy is a St. John's-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring the complexities of relationship, loss, and healing, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Valmy’s debut album “The In Between” weaves nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing, and was warmly received by listeners. Since its release, she’s been the recipient of MusicNL’s 2024 ‘Solo Artist of the Year’ Award, nominated for an East Coast Music Award, and has completed her Autumn solo tour through Eastern Canada. Valmy will be returning to the Battery Café with new music and songs from the record, and looks forward to sharing the stage with Amy Collyer-Holmes.
Amy Collyer-Holmes, a cellist originally from Toronto, has made Newfoundland her home since 2016. A Tuckamore Young Artist Program alumna, she performs regularly with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Opera on the Avalon, the Strong Harbour Strings Collective, and is a founding member of both Lady Lupin and the Harbourlight Piano Quartet. Amy has built her career in Newfoundland as a freelance cellist, working as a teacher, performer & session musician, and arts administrator. Amy was nominated for both Music Educator of the Year, and Industry Professional of the Year at the 2023 & 2024 MusicNL Awards. She is passionate about music education and maintains a private cello studio; she also teaches group and private lessons for Strong Harbour Strings Program, and for the Suzuki Talent Education Program (STEP), where she is the Artistic Director and General Manager.
Performing in a variety of bands in St. John's together over the years, Valmy and Amy Collyer-Holmes are pleased to share their respective sounds as well as their duo material."
