About this event
A veteran performer with deep roots in the Atlantic music scene, Colin’s genre-blending sound draws from blues, hard rock, Americana, and classic singer-songwriter traditions.
His musical journey began in the early '90s, skipping school to chase soundchecks across Newfoundland with The Bare Facts. In 1996, he recorded three songs for CBC Radio’s Performance Hour with Clarenville pop/rock band The Barking Spiders. From 1999 to 2004, he was a core member of The Billion Dollar Blues Band, hosting a beloved weekly blues jam at The Fat Cat alongside notable East Coast musicians.
In 2001, Colin co-founded Silverseed, a high-energy rock outfit whose album, Bronzed, featured 14 original tracks and a video for the single “Could Care Less,” which became a top-3 finalist in the Jam With Pam contest hosted by Pamela Anderson. Their track “Maybe” was nominated for MusicNL Song of the Year, and the band was up for both Group of the Year and Rock Act of the Year. Silverseed shared stages with acts like Bif Naked and Gob, and toured the province alongside Brothers In Stereo and blues legend Denis Parker.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns, he hosted a weekly livestream concert series on Facebook. Over 61 Sundays, Colin’s mix of originals and covers drew over 110,000 views from around the world. “We made the best of a terrible situation,” he says. “Strangers and friends still tell me how much those Sundays meant to them — it fills my heart.”
His 2020 EP C.W.H. features five vintage-tinged, emotionally raw tracks, including “Indigenous Princess” — a powerful single honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Two-Spirited people, inspired by the tragic loss of Chantel John of Miawpukek First Nation.
Currently, Colin is road-testing songs for his upcoming release, with the first single Ever Need a Friend — a North Atlantic Surf-infused Blues/Pop track — set to lead the way, followed by the Tragically Hip-inspired Johnny Toronto.
