Songs and Stories of The Island - 2026 PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls

About this event
The Island’s preeminent historian and storyteller, Dutch Thompson, once again brings his tales of bygone days to the Small Halls stage at the New London Community Complex. His stories will at once bring a tear to your eye, a spark to your heart, and have you rolling in the aisles. Thompson’s decades-long career collecting tape-recorded folk stories has created a library of Island folklore from the 1800s and early 1900s in PEI — rivaling collections such as those of the Smithsonian and Alan Lomax. His appearances on CBC PEI airwaves are cherished by Islanders from Tignish to Souris. He is, truly, an Island legend.
Joining Dutch are musical historians Shane Pendergast and Mike Dixon. Shane's musical trajectory began at a very young age performing with his father, grandparents, aunts, and uncles on stages and in kitchens across the Island. These forebearers of this incredible talent smile proudly as the young folk music prodigy carries on the traditions, stories and song of his family and the place he calls home.
His musical recordings have been recognized by Music PEI as well as the ECMA's.
Musical historian Mike Dixon hails from Summerside PEI and has been a favorite on the Island music scene for decades. Whether playing the country blues, bluegrass or his most recent passion - reviving forgotten PEI folk songs - Mike's songwriting, storytelling, and searing vocal abilities are unmistakably brilliant. A shining diamond in the rough - there are only two types of people when it comes to Mike; his fans, and those who have yet to hear him perform.
