Pottery: Introduction to Hand Building

About this event
Over three hours you will be introduced to the basics of hand building with clay. This class is a comprehensive introduction where focus is on teaching you the tequniques needed for you to work towards becoming profecient at hand building and sculpting.
orientation to our studio and using the bucket system
introduction and hands on experience to tools needed
making and using slip
understanding shrinkage and how to properly dry your pieces
learn the three techniques by making a small bowl using each: pinch, slab and coil
trim and decorate your pieces
Upon completion of this class you will be ready and are welcome to return as a member and begin your hand building journey towards creating funcional and decorative pieces. Make use of our shared studio space or work from home and return to make use of our in house glazes and kiln.

Return in two weeks to pick up your three kiln fired and functional pieces of pottery.All supplies are included. Please wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty, tie back any long hair and trim nails.

What kind of pieces will I be making during this class?
You will make a total of 4 pieces that will be glazed in the color you choose and kiln fired.. You will make 3 small vessels and one coaster that are designed to introduce you to the techniques of hand building. This class is for people who are ready to begin their journey in hand building or for people curious if hand building with clay is an artform they would like to pursue.
