About this event
This class is Step 1 of how to learn the wheel at Makers. This class is designed for people looking to begin their journey in learning how to throw pottery on the wheel .Over 6 hours of focused teaching you will be introduced to the basic techniques of throwing clay and be able to keep up to 4 pieces. You can also take this class in the 3 day format should you find the one day too much.
Here at Makers we have designed a program where class size is kept small (3 people) to allow for focused learning and one that allows you to learn and advance at your own pace.
What other studios don't tell you is, Be prepared to spend up to 6 months of practice before keeping any pieces. It takes time to develop the techniques needed to be successful at small pieces and keeping them to glaze.
You cannot learn everything over a four to six week period. Here at Makers we offer staggered learning and a community space to learn and grow.
Upon completion of this class arrange with Eli and sign up for Step 2 of how to learn the wheel at Makers: Focus on Fundamentals. In order for your journey to be effective it is recommended you sign up for Focus on Fundamentals within 2 weeks of completing this class.
Upon completion of Steps 1 and 2 you can then return as a member and access our wheels and practice clay at no additional charge until you are ready to purchase your own clay and learn the art of glazing.
Return in three weeks to pick up your 4 kiln fired pieces of pottery.
All supplies are included. Please wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty, tie back any long hair and trim nails.
