NFB short films on dance and music (Treasures from the NFB)

About this event
Over the years, the National Film Board of Canada has produced a wide range of short films about dance and music—some more experimental, like Norman McLaren’s Pas de Deux, and others more traditional in a documentary style, such as The Haunts of Murray McLauchlan, created as part of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards series.
For our June program of Treasures from the NFB, presented in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada and the Eptek Art & Culture Centre, we dug into the catalogue to find short films on the themes of music and dance that we found particularly compelling.
This is a free screening, but voluntary contributions at the door are welcome.
This program will include:
Lonely Boy (Wolf Koenig & Roman Kroitor, 1962)
Pas de deux (Norman McLaren, 1968)
Ballet Adagio (Norman McLaren, 1972)
Narcissus (Norman McLaren, 1983)
Loca (Véronique Paquette, 2024)
Part of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards series:
Mavis Staines: Sharing Dance (Leah Nelson, 2019)
Edith Butler: Daughter of the Wind and Acadie (Monique LeBlanc, 2009)
Diane Juster: Foundation of a Song (Gilles Doiron, 2024)
The Haunts of Murray McLauchlan (Michael McNamara, 2018)
